My experience with horses began as soon as I could communicate my need for that connection. It was something I knew from a very early age was my “calling.” From lessons to volunteering, I felt at home in a stable. I took lessons off and on as a kid, as finances allowed. As I got older, I sought out opportunities to work with horses.
My formal experience with horses began as a young adult. I started as an apprentice with a small stable consisting of four horses, one mule, three donkeys, and three dogs. The apprenticeship was an invaluable experience where I learned under an industry veteran of over 50 years. I worked on all aspects of stable maintenance, including feeding, watering, cleaning, and general upkeep. I have experience putting blankets and fly masks on as well as removing them. I have administered medicine both orally and as an injection.
I have handled horses with behavioral issues ranging from head shyness (or general shyness) to biting. I have also dealt with head wounds, shoulder wounds, and more. As we know, horses love to hurt themselves!
I take my time and understand the patience needed to learn what an animal needs.
